Defund the police? Reform police budgeting? If you’ve ever wanted to hear about these issues from someone who’s actually worn a police uniform, now’s your chance. The guest on this podcast is Jaime Shepherd, who, since joining Toronto Police in 1990 wore plainclothes and a uniform, patrolled on land (Foot/Bicycle Patrol) and sea (Marine Unit), and worked traffic and Transit Patrol. From performing Scene of Crime duties to teaching residents about the behind the scenes reality of the Toronto Police Service, Jaime has so much to share with us about what we could do about crime in this city. His departure from the service began after being put on unpaid leave due to vaccine mandate policies, and after a brief return in June 2022 he chose to retire in July. I loved hearing his perspective on this podcast and am excited to see what he’ll be doing next!
